Who am I?
Thomas Mitchell #thecyclinglawyer
I am an elite Enduro mountain bike racer, cycle industry ambassador and Trainee Solicitor working in Scotland.
Cycling is my hobby, my sport, my job and my passion. Everything I do revolves around bikes in one way or another.
I grew up mountain biking in the Scottish Borders and started racing in the Scottish Enduro Series in 2014 as a 20 year old. That first year, I won the senior category in the TweedLove ‘King of the Hill’ race – the unofficial Scottish Enduro Championships – and since then, my racing has become a key part of my life.
I compete regularly in the ‘No Fuss Events’ Scottish Enduro Series and select rounds of the Enduro World Series.
My dedication and enthusiasm for the sport has also brought sponsorships and an ambassadorial role with the Scottish Enduro Series itself, which will see me promote the locations and the races of this year’s championship.
Having graduated with an LLB (Honours) from the University of Aberdeen in 2016 and completed my Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh in 2017, I am now a Trainee Solicitor at Road Traffic Accident Law Scotland (RTALS) LLP. My primary focus is progressing claims for injured cyclists through the civil legal system working for Cycle Law Scotland.
The work takes on a very personal dimension for me as I know the challenges cyclists face on the roads and can bring that understanding to the many cases that our firm handles.
I believe that it is possible to combine sport at a top competitive level with a working life. I hope that through sharing my experiences and adventures I can inspire others, young and old to give cycling a go.
